A 17-year-old is charged with murder in the Orlando Halloween shooting.

At 1:07 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting near East Central Boulevard and North Orange Avenue.

According to Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith, nine people were shot, and two died. Six victims were transported to Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center and are currently in stable condition. The victims were between the ages of 19 and 39, according to Orlando Police.

Officials shared additional details about their condition:

  • Victim 1: Black male, 25, dead.
  • Victim 2: White male, 19, dead.
  • Victim 3: White male, 18, shot in the lower left leg.
  • Victim 4: White female, 39, shot in the left hand.
  • Victim 5: Spanish girl, 24, shot in left leg
  •  Victim 6: Black male, 20, shot in head (graze) 
  • Victim 7: Spanish man, 26, shot in right foot
  • Victim 8: A 19-year-old Spanish female shot in the upper back and lodged in her cheek.
  • Victim 9: Spanish female, 26, injuries from being crushed.

Smith claimed that the suspect, 17-year-old Jaylen Dwayne Edgar, was captured and had a previous arrest record. Edgar faces two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm, including six counts of attempted first-degree murder.

According to OPD, officers received another complaint shortly after claiming a gunfire on North Orange Avenue, south of Washington Street.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced a local state of emergency for businesses in the city’s downtown entertainment zone during a press conference on Friday. It will implement a curfew from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. and restrict alcohol sales at midnight.
